Mechanism |
Gemfibrozil: May enhance the myopathic (rhabdomyolysis) effect of Atorvastatin. Gemfibrozil may increase the serum concentration of Atorvastatin. |
Management |
To minimize the risk of toxicity consider using micronized fenofibrate instead of gemfibrozil. Gemfibrozil should only be considered in patients receiving lower atorvastatin doses. Monitor patients closely for signs/symptoms of muscle toxicity. |
