Indications |
Topical/Cutaneous Condyloma acuminata Adult: As 5% cream: Apply 3 times wkly for up to 16 wk. Cream is applied at night and left on the skin for 6-10 hr. Wash with mild soap and water after each dose. Topical/Cutaneous Perianal warts Adult: As 5% cream: Apply 3 times wkly for up to 16 wk. Cream is applied at night and left on the skin for 6-10 hr. Wash with mild soap and water after each dose. Topical/Cutaneous Actinic keratoses Adult: As 5% cream: Apply 3 times wkly for 4 wk. May repeat for a further 4 wk after a 4-wk break if needed. Cream is applied at night and left on the skin for approx 8 hr. Wash w/ mild soap and water after use. Topical/Cutaneous Superficial basal cell carcinoma Adult: As 5% cream: Apply 5 times wkly for 6 wk. Cream is applied at night and left on the skin for approx 8 hr. Wash skin w/ mild soap and water after each dose. |
Warnings / Precautions |
Avoid normal skin, inflamed skin and open wounds. Not for internal genital warts. Risk of phimosis or stricture of foreskin in uncircumcised males. May increase risk of photosensitivity; patients should protect themselves from sun and UV light exposure. Pregnancy and lactation. |
Adverse Reactions |
Erythema, skin erosion, excoriation, flaking, oedema, pain, itching, rarely local ulceration and scabbing; permanent hypo- or hyperpigmentation; headache, influenza-like symptoms and myalgia. |
Mechanism of Actions |
Imiquimod is an immune response modifier; may induce cytokines. The exact mechanism of action is unknown. Absorption: Absorption is minimal. Excretion: Urine (≤2% of aplied dose as parent drug and metabolites.) |
