Hypromellose

Indications
Intraocular
Adjunct in ophthalmic surgery
Adult: Administered intraocularly as a 2% soln.
Ophthalmic
Protection of the cornea during gonioscopy procedures
Adult: Apply up to 2.5% soln.
Ophthalmic
Dry eye
Adult: As 0.3-1% soln: Instil 1-2 drops in affected eye(s) as needed.
Warnings / Precautions
Seek medical attention if eye irritation not present before therapy occurs.
Adverse Reactions
Eye discomfort/irritation/redness, tearing, eye sensitivity to light, sticky eyelashes, or temporary blurred vision.
Mechanism of Actions
Hypromellose stabilises and thickens the precorneal tear film and prolongs the tear film breakup time thereby promoting corneal wetting. It also lubricates and protects the eye.
