Gramicidin

Indications
Ophthalmic
Ocular infections
Adult: Instill 1-2 drops or apply ointment 2-4 times daily, usually in combination with other antibacterials (eg, neomycin and polymyxin B) and frequently with a corticosteroid.
Topical/Cutaneous
Superficial infections
Adult: Apply thinly bid-tid.
Contraindications
Porphyria.
Adverse Reactions
Local sensitivity reactions, Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
Potentially Fatal: Liver and kidney damage.
Mechanism of Actions
Gramicidin is an antibacterial which is too toxic to be used systemically, so it is rather used as a topical and ophth agent and in combination with other antibacterials (neomycin and polymixin B) and also with corticosteroids.
