Dioctahedral Smectite

Indications
 Oral
Diarrhoea
Adult: 9 g/day.
Child: >2 yr: 6-9 g/day; 1-2 yr: 3-6 g/day; <1 yr: 3 g/day. To be admin in 2-3 divided doses. Daily dose can be doubled at the beginning of treatment for acute diarrhoea.
Adverse Reactions
 Rarely, aggravation of constipation.
Drug Interactions
 May interfere with absorption of other substances when administered simultaneously.

 Dioctahedral has adsorbent properties and is used in the management of diarrhoea.
