Indications |
Oral Allergic conditions Adult: As maleate: 1-2 mg tid. Topical/Cutaneous Pruritic skin disorders Adult: As 0.1% gel/lotion: Use as directed. |
Contraindications |
Neonates, infants, urinary retention, paralytic ileus. |
Warnings / Precautions |
Elderly, closed-angle glaucoma, benign prostatic hyperplasia, driving, epilepsy, GI tract obstruction. Pregnancy and lactation. |
Adverse Reactions |
CNS depression, paradoxical CNS excitation, dryness of mouth, thickened resp mucus, urinary retention, constipation, tachycardia and arrhythmias, blurring of vision, GI upsets, blood dyscrasias. Topical application: Sensitisation. |
Drug Interactions |
Masks ototoxicity produced by aminoglycosides and antibiotics. Potentiate CNS depressant actions of alcohol, barbiturates, sedatives, opioid analgesics and neuroleptics. May block the effects of betahistine. QT prolongation may occur when used with mefloquine. May cause increased sedative effects when used with thalidomide. Mechanism of Actions |
Dimethindene is an alkylamine derivative. It is mildy sedative and have mast-cell stabilising properties. It is also a potent H1-antagonist and possesses significant sedative actions. May cause paradoxical stimulation of CNS esp in children. |
