Mechanism |
Coadministration of SNRIs and tryptophan (a serotonin precursor) may result in serotonin syndrome due to the additive serotonergic effects of these agents. |
Management |
Concurrent use should be avoided. Monitor the patient closely for signs and symptoms of serotonin syndrome (e.g. mental status changes, neuromuscular aberrations, autonomic instability and gastrointestinal symptoms) if the combination cannot be avoided. |
