Irrigation As an irrigant during transurethral prostatic or bladder surgery Adult: As sterile solutions of glycine 1.5% in water. |

Anuric patients. |
Warnings / Precautions |
Hepatic impairment as any absorption and consequent metabolism may cause hyperammonaemia. Cardiopulmonary or renal dysfunction. CV status, especially in patients with cardiac disease, should be carefully determined before and during treatment. Ensure that the solution is clear and used promptly once it is opened to minimise risk of particulate and/or bacterial contamination. |
Adverse Reactions |
Fluid and electrolyte disorders e.g. acidosis, electrolyte loss, marked diuresis, urinary retention, oedema and dehydration; CV/pulmonary disorders e.g. pulmonary congestion, hypotension, tachycardia, angina-like pain and thrombophlebitis. Visual disturbances, convulsions, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, vertigo and urticaria. |
Mechanism of Actions |
Sterile solutions of glycine 1.5% in water are used for urogenital irrigation during certain surgical procedures, especially transurethral resection of the prostate. |
