Macrolide Antibiotics: May decrease the metabolism of HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors. |
Management |
Avoid lovastatin or simvastatin with erythro-, clarithro-, or telithromycin. Limit pitavastatin to a 1 mg/day maximum adult dose with erythromycin. Atorvastatin dose adjustments may be required. Increase monitoring for toxicity with any such combination. Exceptions: Azithromycin; Azithromycin (Systemic); Fidaxomicin (Systemic); Spiramycin. |
