Indications |
Topical/Cutaneous Skin fungal infections Adult: Apply 1% cream, lotion, powd or soln up to tid. Continue for 2-4 wk. Child: Same as adult dose. Topical/Cutaneous Nail fungal infections Adult: As 1% cream/lotion: Apply once daily under occlusive dressing. Vaginal Vaginal candidiasis Adult: 150 mg pessaries once daily at bedtime for 3 consecutive nights or a single dose of 150 mg (as a long-acting formulation). Alternatively, 5 g of 10% cream every night for 2 wk. |
Contraindications |
Hypersensitivity. Porphyria; pregnancy. |
Warnings / Precautions |
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. May damage latex contraceptives. Pregnancy. |
Adverse Reactions |
Vulvar/vaginal burning; burning sensation; erythema; itching; contact dermatitis. |
Mechanism of Actions |
Econazole modifies the permeability of cell wall membrane in fungi; may interfere with RNA and protein synthesis, and lipid metabolism. Absorption: Insignificant (topical or vaginal). |
